How has working at Bishop Challoner contributed to your professional development and career?
Working at Bishop Challoner has contributed to my professional development and career in many different ways. Working at Challoner has allowed me to develop my subject knowledge and gain experience in curriculum planning through my role as a History teacher. I have also developed in my career by recently being promoted into Second in Command of the History department, where I will take on new responsibilities and have a more senior position within the department. I will also have the opportunity to lead people and be responsible for curriculum development at KS3 level. This development has been made possible through the support and progression opportunities that have been made available to me at Bishop Challoner.
What does a typical day look like in your role, and how do you feel it contributes to the overall success of the school?
A typical day in my current role is busy but rewarding and I feel it adds to overall success of the school. Usually my working day will span between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm, where I will be teaching classes of students on average 4 hours. The rest of that time I will spend lesson planning, marking or creating resources which can be used to further the experiences of the pupils I teach. On a day-to-day basis I try to offer a safe and fulfilling experience for the pupils in my lessons, they will leave having made progress in their education and a positive experience within the hour.
What do you enjoy most about working in this school, and what keeps you motivated in your role?
What I most enjoy about working at Bishop Challoner is the environment of the school that our values and focus on respect promote. The relationships between colleagues and students are all grounded in this ethos and it creates a place of work that is very rewarding and enjoyable to be in. My motivation comes from wanting to provide a good experience for the students and being the best version of myself I can be to achieve this. I want to teach high-quality lessons and continue to build strong relationships with students and colleagues. The environment that Bishop Challoner offers allows me to do this and encourages and rewards the efforts that staff make.
