Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: PE Kit Update — Football Boots Required from September

I am writing to inform you of an addition to our PE kit requirements, which will come into effect from the start of the new academic year in September.

We are delighted to announce that we will be making use of the outstanding new Irish Centre facility, which features a state-of-the-art 3G artificial grass (Astro) pitch. This is a fantastic resource for our school community and one which we are extremely proud to have access to. The facility will serve as a central venue for the majority of our sporting events and activities throughout the year, offering pupils an exceptional environment in which to develop their skills and represent the school.

To comply with the safety and maintenance regulations governing use of this facility, all pupils will be required to wear appropriate football boots when participating in lessons and events on the 3G surface.

The following footwear is permitted on the 3G pitch:

  • Football boots with plastic moulded studs
  • Football boots with plastic screw-in studs (less than 21mm)

The following footwear is not permitted and must not be worn on the pitch:

  • Trainers, shoes or boots with flat soles
  • Trainers, shoes or boots with dimpled soles
  • Footwear with blades
  • Metal studs of any kind

We ask that boots are clean and in good condition before pupils access the pitch, as muddy or damaged footwear can cause damage to the surface.

Football boots suitable for Astro pitches are widely available at a range of price points. We would recommend looking for boots labelled AG (artificial grass) or MG (multi-ground), as these are suitable for both grass and 3G surfaces and represent good value. Budget options are available from as little as £15–£20 from retailers such as Sports Direct, JD Sports, and online retailers.

Could we please ask that appropriate boots are in school ready for the start of term in September. If you have any concerns regarding this requirement, please do not hesitate to contact the PE Department.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Noone
