Image of Uniform and Standards - Letter to Parents/Carers

Dear Parent/Carer,

At Bishop Challoner Catholic College we always strive for the highest standards across all aspects of school life, we want all students to wear our uniform with pride and adhere to the uniform and appearance expectations and be in school on time every day.

Attendance

Regular attendance to school is essential for helping students feel part of the school community. It allows them to learn effectively, build friendships, take part in clubs and trips and benefit from the routines that are so important for their wellbeing. Students must attend school every day unless they are too unwell.  Attendance directly impacts learning outcomes. Students with the highest attainment typically have higher rates of attendance. Missing just one day of school results in an average five lessons of learning missed and over time, this really adds up.

Punctuality

Students need to be sat in form by 8.40 am otherwise will be late to school. The school gates close at 8.37 am and students after this point need to sign in at reception. Being on time for school is essential to ensure students are fully prepared for the day.

Uniform and Appearance

Information regarding summer uniform expectations will be sent out this half term.  Adaptations for summer uniform come into effect after May half term.  If there is any change to this due to extreme weather conditions any new date will be communicated.

  • Students are not permitted to wear any jewellery in school, apart from a single set of silver/gold studs in both ears, worn in the lobe and nowhere else.  If a student is wearing any other items of jewellery they will be told to remove it and this will be confiscated.
  • No piercings of any other type are permitted, including clear earrings/studs. Again, these will be confiscated if worn.
  • Students are not permitted to wear false eyelashes  or make up.  Nothing should be worn on the nail for example nail varnish, gel, false nails or other overlays.
  • All footwear must be formal, black shoes (see website for images). Any type of trainer or sports branded footwear is not permitted.  Students will be offered shoes to lend if trainers are worn to school.
  • Blazers must be always worn, unless given specific permission not to while in lessons.  School jumpers are optional and should not be worn instead of a blazer.
  • Flared, bootleg, legging, jegging type, skintight, crop trousers are not allowed.  All trousers must be formal in style, straight leg and meet the shoe.

If an item of uniform needs to be borrowed, students will need to hand in their mobile phone, this will be returned when the item of uniform is returned.

Thank you in advance for your support, we look forward to welcoming all students back to school tomorrow for an 8.40am start.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Hearnden
