Dear Parents and Carers

Update on the arrangements for assessments in GCSE, AS/A level and Vocational Qualifications in 2023

I hope you and your families are well.

Yesterday the school received a letter from Ofqual, the examinations regulator, updating us on arrangements for examinations next summer. You can view a copy of this letter using the link below:

We advise you to read this letter and to make a note of the following statement within it:

Exam boards have also included contingency sessions on the afternoons of 8 and 15 June, and on 28 June. These days would be used in the unlikely event that exams had to be moved because they could not take place when planned. Please make sure your students know that they might be required to sit exams on these days.

Summer Examinations 2023:

Public examinations successfully returned in summer 2022 after a three year absence. The government has made it clear that there is absolutely no expectation that there will be a need to cancel examinations in 2023 and it is expected that examinations will run exactly as they did in 2022.

In the most unlikely event of the need to cancel examinations in 2023, Ofqual have recently published guidance for schools to consider. The guidance issued to schools is available to view using the link below:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/supporting-resilience-in-the-exam-system-in-2023/supporting-resilience-in-the-exam-system-in-2023

Please be completely assured that if there is a requirement for schools to introduce these measures you and your son/daughter will be kept fully informed throughout.

Thank you for your continued support – it is always appreciated.

Best wishes to you and your families and have a restful, peaceful Christmas and a prosperous 2023.
