Image of Advent Season - Attending Mass

Dear Parent/Carer,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a peaceful and happy Advent season. The Advent Season is all about reflecting on how we can prepare our hearts and homes for Christ's birth in the world as it is today. It is a time for faith communities and families to remember, through prayer, reflections, special music, and good deeds what the true meaning of Jesus' birth is.

As we begin the Advent season, we would like to encourage you and your families to discuss the importance of attending Mass and finding time to make this a part of your regular Sunday routine.

We invite you to read the announcement presented by The Catholic Bishops of England and Wales following the Catholic Bishop Conference on Thursday 18th November 2021.

https://www.birminghamdiocese.org.uk/news/bishops-statement-honouring-sunday

This statement celebrates the joy of being present at Mass and encourages all Catholics to look again at the patterns which they have formed in recent months with regard to going to Mass on Sundays.

Within this statement, it is recognised that, due to the ongoing pandemic, not everyone is yet in the position to fulfil the absolute duty to attend freely Sunday Mass and in such circumstances we would encourage families to join their parish Mass through the live streams that are provided via the pariah websites.

To help families with their preparations for attending Mass, we have attached the Mass times for parishes in the Tolkien cluster and around Birmingham. We hope you find this a useful resource.

Many Blessings,

The Bishop Challoner Chaplaincy team
