Dear Parent/Carer,

The Pianist – Movie about the Holocaust

As part of their Year 9 history curriculum, your child will be watching a film in their history lessons called ‘The Pianist’. The film is based on the true experiences of Władysław Szpilman, a Polish pianist of Jewish descent who experienced persecution during the Nazi occupation of Poland.

The film has a BBFC age rating of 15, due to containing scenes of violence against Jews by German soldiers and infrequent use of strong language. The age ratings by the BBFC only applies to viewing the film in the cinema; therefore, we intend to show this film to Year 9 over this half term, as we believe that it is of huge value to their study of the Holocaust.

If you do not wish for your child to watch this film, please do not hesitate to contact me via email on r.watson@bishopchalloner.bham.sch.uk. Alternative educational provision will be provided.

Yours sincerely

Ms R Watson
