Jesus was a Refugee

In RE this advent, we have been exploring the idea that Jesus was a refugee. We compared the birth of Jesus and the flight to Egypt due to Herod's threat of violence, to the stories and journeys of many refugees today. Students followed the story of Afghan refugee Kamran to gain a deeper understanding of why people flee their countries and what hardships they face on their way to safety. Reflecting on Pope Francis' words, 'Jesus Christ is always waiting to be recognised in migrants and refugees', students wrote prayers and poems to raise awareness and encourage a spirit of welcome this Advent.
